Exporting a mockup video that does not look compressed

A mockup video is mostly flat colour, sharp edges and smooth gradients — the exact content that reveals compression. Default export settings tuned for camera footage will give you banding on your gradient and mush around your type. A few deliberate choices fix it.

Bitrate scales with pixels, not with taste

A bitrate that looks fine at 1080p30 will fall apart at 4K60, because there are eight times as many pixels per second to describe. Think in bits per pixel rather than absolute numbers: something around 0.3 bits per pixel per frame is a solid starting point for clean product footage, which lands near 20 Mbps at 1080p60 and much higher at 4K. If you see blocking around moving type, that is the number to raise first.

Frame-by-frame beats real-time capture

Recording the canvas in real time means any hitch on your machine gets baked into the file, and a slow frame becomes a visible stutter forever. Rendering frame by frame — advancing time, drawing, encoding, repeating — produces a file whose timing is exact regardless of how fast the machine is. It also lets you export at resolutions and frame rates the browser could never play back live. If your tool offers both, the frame-by-frame path is worth the extra wait.

Match resolution and frame rate to the destination

Store previews follow the device class dimensions at 30 fps. A website hero loop benefits from 60 fps because smoothness is the point and the file plays silently on repeat. Social platforms re-encode everything you upload, so give them the highest quality master you can and let their pipeline do the damage — uploading a pre-compressed file means being compressed twice.
